..didn't go as good as Forbes. Perhaps this place has more tricks to fly and we need to think more. All 3 task days I got too impatient trying to go faster. It usually worked at the begiging. But then I ultimately finded myself too low mistaked about the thermal, sometimes I had to spend an hour to come up again. And even when I got up, alone alredy, I tried to fly faster, making some decisions instead of "drifting down the course" and could mistake and got stucked for one hour more or even land short to goal. Grrr....
Well, at least I fly ~50km with the best pilots - it is an amazing feeling! They go so fast and confident! Wow! How do they??

My team mates tell where is no use in flying 50km fast (or even more) and then land. They tell it makes no tranings. They tell it is better to fly carefull but get to goal. Because if you are the first one to be 5km short to goal you hadn't make the task and all your speed worth nothing. Maybe I'm a full, but I don't get it.
Shouldn't I try to fly with the leaders to train better? Even if it worths me some risk to mistake and to land short?

THIS QUESTION IS FOR EVERYBODY.
How do You think, what is more effective for learning: being slow and carefull to get to goal every day or trying to be faster even if it may cause bomb out?

Or maybe I don't understand something........ help me please <.>

I took the 13th - the best I've ever made :)
At first I was sad abit about the pre-last day with superlong task to wash it down because I was scared. I was dreaming about how great it would be if I only get to goal. Now after 2 russian pilots tumbled in Australia I think it is better to fly longer. Especially to come back to Forbes the next year. I even heard from someone that Forbs is nominated as the next place for World Championship - that's great! I dream to come back soon and meet all the people again, I already miss them.

They told..

I can fly the European Championship!
It's like a miracle, cause at first there were no chances. I just kept dreaming day by day, tried to find some solutions.. and everything turned out to make this dream come true)
Natalia K. has here own business to do and no time to participate, so I'm in the team now! woooohooo! And the "competition calendar" for the next season is:
- Alpen Open (to warm up)
- European Championship
- The Pre-Worlds
- French Nationals
- Women’s Worlds
>> then, back home to Russia and competing Russian Open )))
Looks like it's gonna be a hot summer +)
Feels like I'm the happiest girl in the world!

But now: winter, winter, winter, job .....and the University (It's so hard to put together: spring exams vs europe. I'm not realy shure, what would I choose if I have to >o.O< ) .. and trainings!

Air adventure in Kuray

Once I had an interesting adventure:

I was hanging 2300m above the valley. The task had been stopped, cause of the thunderstorm coming out of the mountain chain, and I had to go down immediately. Our camp and my warm dry tent amid were right under my tummy… “Oh! Here is a nice landing-field, a few meters aside! I’d rather land right there, than to carry a heavy glider for more than kilometer in the rain or wait for the retrievals!”

…”So, let’s free the VG and come down”

I released a rope out of the clip, drop it, and.. ..nothing happened!! A long VG’s rope kept hanging from my downtube! “What the f#??? Should I land with my VG on??”

I tried it several times: nothing pleasant. 2500m above sea-level on the ground, unpredictable thermal-wind direction plus tiny landing zone.. That meant, I’d stuck into troubles :/

I started to shake the frame – nothing. Tried to overload the sail in a bank – no good. Well, at least, I had 1400 meters to solve this stupid problem. How to free a stuck VG in the air?

Simply! Just to get inside the glider and remove the problem! Right the way I did.

I climbed the frame by foot, pulled up, unzipped a sail and started to hit the crosstube ahead.. After a few attempts it yielded! A VG rope darted into the downtube in a trice while a glider skipped to a bank. So I had to throw everything, return horizontal and calm my glider. When things went right I cast a glance up: a keeltube were unpleasantly hanging out of the sail. Nothing else to do but to climb again and to zip it, and that was much more complicated :/

Further flight was without troubles except landing, of course))) The wind had changed to a slightly downwash from the mountains while I was flying, and it happened to decide if I’m landing with a face wind but down grade, or with a tail one but upwards 0o.. I chose the second. That’s the way I did my first slope-landing, successfully, thank God!

By the way, I was the first to reach the camp)))))

I've got a whole world to tell you about :)

Three months of non-stop Hang Gliding trip: Kazakhstan, Altay, Crimea, Caucuses. Tons of impressions, feelings...
BUT, from the beginning:
On 10-th of July I took my tent, sleeping bag, few reserve socks and a harness, stuffed my glider into a train and began my joinery... It didn't feel like reality - to get 4000km far from home by train, to get ALTAY. There the Russian Open Championship where going to be held.
Kurai.... mmm....
Amazing places, crazy weather. It was harder to land, than to fly away. Just like a simple walking if you don't mind about thunderstorms around and +7/-9 thermal-shaking ):)p During the flight I struck my head with a downtube twice!
Otherwise, with my hands down, I made 79km task.
I was 4980 meters over the see-level! And 4200-4500m was a normal altitude for a day.

And nearly NO human beings around in the mountains, except rare locals, in poor wooden villages..

Runing through the cloud

I still hadn't passed all my exams, but thank God, Randomize, last weekend we eventually went flying :). 2 days of typical summer weather, when u have 2-4 hours in the early afternoon to soar, unstill u stuck into some huge overdeveloping cloud or even thunderstorm. Saturday seemed to be just like this.
I launched clearly and took my 500 meters. Alex, my friend, were already climbing above me. Looked like he had just 800meters, but when I unhooked absolutely nothing was around. Just -2,5 everywhere, I hardly got back to the start.
Alex had already gone far off, when I made the second attempt. This time I had luck to find -0,5 and start searching. Those deep gullies 2,5km to the south seemed quite tasty and I headed for them. My hopes where justified! Flat +1,3 rapidly became +2,5 and soon a huge cloud where laying over me....
At first, I wanted to escape to avoid getting in, but soon considered: "Why not"? The cloud wasn't too aggressive, I was climbing in a smooth +3 lift on the edge of it, and it's better to test the cloud now, than to be sucked into a thunderstorm later with no ideas what to do :)p Great justification)))))

So I did it! I got closer to a huge gray wall! All was like a dream, like a scary breathtaking dream! The cloud felt to be made of wet snow. Cut off parts where tumbling near by. Everything moved! For a few seconds the ground gone, I pulled the bar... one..... two.... three... and fell out of the cloud! WOW! Laughing, like an idiot :D

Playing, I almost forgot about the ground and retrieval road. My glider was blew quite far from it, where was no roads at all, except railway... Ha! To get back on the train!...Come on....

I headed back and spent all 1400m to reach the road-line// Anyway, it was a 25km route)))))

I've just made my first crosscountry in Russia!
And that's not so easy as it seems ..)))
I feel glad and proud!

nobody around - just eagles and hawks! ///once they helped me to "survive", when all I had was only 200m +)p Whey showed me saving tiny thermal!

Crazy March weather.... crazy March flights//
Winch-towing..
And the pilot made a terrible mistake: he attached his VAR in the center of the crossbar. He had already climbed 40m, when his "over-under bridle" got stuck in the VAR-binding and caused a LOCKOUT.
That looked terrible!!! Looked like the total END/
BUT!
This pilot! He is unbelievably lucky to find a tiny tree line beside the tow-road!
Yes! He swooped down to the ground through those trees, crashing his glider, but slowing his speed.
HE SURVIVED! Thanks to tress, I guess. Nothing else)
Just a few broken bones and a concussion))) God be praised!

And the Glider.... looks like firewood! NO safe tubes where found! Steel ropes torn. Shredded sail... brrrr-r-r-r....

I wish him a soonest recovery!!!

On Dec. 30 we've hit the road to Crimea.
NewYear party at the Klementeva mountain! The best place I can imagine :)p Native air, long-awaited friends and, of course, Flying!
All seemed like a jump to the Spring: - as soon as we crossed the Ukr-Crimea border we fell out the wall of darkness right to the blinding Sun))))

I hope my Mum will never know all the madness we did there, while celebrating the NewYear+)p

Nevertheless, we flew every day!!!
Crimea sky presented us a fantastic weather with 2-22m/s wind (to any weights and sail-sizes)))) Paragliders, Hanggliders, sailplanes...
even BASE-jumpers soared over the mountain once! %)

for example I got airborne at first(3-rd flight is me <**>). The glider seemd toooooo heavy))) and the altitude - soooo big))))And It Was Great!!!!...just as terrifying, wow!

Now, just sitting infront of the window and waching them, I'm getting amazed of all they performing there!

So when the cold comes, I just wrap in my orange scarf, clasp the bird to my bosom and dream about sun, blue sky and flights))))

Day by day I'm just looking for the reasons not to go round the bend!
I'm tired...
Tired of working two jobs at once, studing at the university and Art school... I like all this passions, but together thay drive me crazy.
the typical day appears to be:
getting up early, running to the workplace, missing the university, rushing to flightclub in the evening, moving to the autoservise to paint cars with airbrush(2nd job) all night long, sleeping 2-3 hours in a pile of rubbish and after that trudge in the morning to the university nd Art school? whrere I shoul look perfect!

ha-ha! it's gonna be so funny to recall all this in my memory few years later!
but not now!

What is the Aim??? - Hangliding, f*!
I wanna Combat L12!!! I wanna travel to Champs!!! I wanna fly all season long and meet people!!! Mybe I'll meet u some day?)

unusual sensations ... but rather close to the winch)))
the only problem - i pull in the crossbar with all might, but it's hardly enought not to get well above the tug...
r-r-r-r! too slow glider! too low weight!

anyway, on 6-th attemp I managed to climb 500m)))
and than nothing prevented me make a few steep turns).....mmmm.....passionately fond of aerobatics)))

well....maybe some day.....)
ha! nevermind!

after a whole summer of constant flying!!! after unbeleavable freedom and happines I came back home!!!
Crimea and Caucasus))) astonishing views!!! Finest weather! and people! I like all of them so much!!!!

I took part in my first competition - Grinenko Cup)
more than half of the pilots had topless gliders, and I managed to come the 10-th!!!! on the slow knightposted glider and with no experience in my ne'er-do-well head)))))
the 10-th!!! cool!!!

and the 1-st among women)
I was gived the brake parachute as a present!

I need no brake parachute to my current glider - so that joke may mean two things:
